William Cormack

With a career that spans 33 years of experience in development, construction, property management and information services Bill Whelan founded Whelan Associates in 2001 in order to return to the hands on business of developing an entrepreneurial company providing real estate service to his home turf of the south coast of Massachusetts. Prior to founding Whelan Associates, Bill was the Chairman of Spaulding and Slye Colliers International, a comprehensive real estate services firm in Boston, MA. Spaulding and Slye became a real estate industry leader during his 29-year tenure with the help of many successful projects that he was responsible for, including development of the $500 million 125 High Street Tower in Boston.
During Bill’s tenure at Spaulding and Slye he was also the driving force behind expanding their employee base and resources from only 35 people in 1973 to 600 people upon his departure. From project management to strategic planning Bill has the knowledge and experience to successfully integrate all facets of real estate corporate services into the SouthCoast market where he has maintained his residence throughout his life and career.

Prior to being one of the founding principals of Whelan Associates, Bill served as Vice President of State Street Corporation in Boston, MA where he supervised the Property Services Department managing 4 million square feet of domestic office space. He also served as the Mergers and Acquisitions Leasing Officer at State Street Corporation. Bill's expertise in project management, property management and brokerage has been garner through experience at companies such as Spaulding and Slye Colliers in Washington, D.C. and Leggat McCall Properties in Boston, MA.

William Cormack

Bill joined Whelan Associates in 2002. Prior to joining Whelan Associates, Bill worked at Spaulding and Slye Colliers International for a period of 27 years. He served as Director of MIS, Controller, Financial Analyst handling a full range of real estate services including development, management, construction, consulting and brokerage. A broad understanding of financial management principles and their impact on company operations and technology issues strengthen his experience as a financial professional. He has performed multiple and overlapping roles covering financial and technical aspects of real estate.

Joseph R. Irvine

Joseph R. Irvine

Prior to joining Whelan Associates in June of 2006, Joe was a property manager for the State Street Corporation and Trammell Crow.  Most recently Joe was responsible for managing both tenant facility services and base building property management at the one million square foot State Street Financial Center in Boston MA. 

As the head of Whelan’s Property Management team, Joe uses his 18 years of experience in construction, facilities maintenance services and property management to create and maintain high quality, efficient and clean environments for an array of occupants.

Thomas M. Leclerc

Thomas M. Leclerc

Prior to joining Whelan Associates in 2006, Tom Leclerc spent the last 10 of his 17 years in the construction industry as a Senior Project Manager with one of Boston’s premier building contractors.  Tom’s attention to detail and ability to foster a true team partnership with all of the project’s stakeholders--Owner, Architect, Engineers, Construction Manager and Subcontractors have enabled Tom to lead very complex and challenging projects for such clients as Fidelity Investments, Cisco Systems, Compaq Computers, Hallmark Health, and Emerson College.

Brian D. Droukas

Brian D. Droukas

Brian joined the company in 2007 as Vice President of Business Development. Prior to joining Whelan Associates, Brian served as a Senior Sales Executive, obtaining and managing accounts including Shields Healthcare, Saab 1 Enterprises, and 900 locations of the United States Postal Service, spanning from Worcester to Cape Cod, as well as the state of Rhode Island. His sales and customer service experience are an extremely valuable asset to Whelan Associates.





Richard (Rick) E. Barnes

Richard E. Barnes

Rick joined Whelan Associates in 2008 to head the Capital Markets Group for the company. As head of this new division, Rick provides clients with customized investment property sales solutions, as well as acquisition and recapitalization services. These premier services are offered to individual and institutional owners and investors engaged in buying, selling, developing, and financing real estate.

Rick brings to the company 32 years of success in development, leasing, and sales of income producing real estate assets across the country. More recently, he has closed over $56 million in transactions utilizing a creative multi-channel marketing campaign. Among his accomplishments include the sale of One Washington Place in Easton and Faunce Corner Executive Center One, in Dartmouth.

As a specialist in the office, retail and industrial property markets, Rick proactively identifies and matches the needs of investment property buyers and sellers, and engineers solutions that insure smooth transactions.
