New Bedford Ocean Explorium Gains a New Lease on Life at Union Square
A new name and a new home for the New Bedford Ocean Explorium.
It
has been a long and slippery slope to bring a world class Oceanarium to
New Bedford, but there is new found traction with the announcement that
the Oceanarium has found a place to call home. Following the news of
the name change, from The New Bedford Oceanaruim to the Ocean
Explorium, Whelan Associates today announced that they have granted
tenancy to the Ocean Explorium.
The
Ocean Explorium’s new home, located in a 2,000 square foot space on the
ground floor of the Union Square Office Centre, in historic downtown
New Bedford, will provide easy public access to the underwater worlds
of New Bedford and beyond. Planning is now underway, and both parties
have acknowledged that the Ocean Explorium is slated to open in mid
2008.
Whelan Associates, whose
corporate offices are located on the top floor of the Union Square
Office Centre, has recently been a catalyst for the implementation and
development of the Ocean Explorium. “We are very honored to be a part
of this historic event.” says William Whelan, President of Whelan
Associates. “New Bedford, a U.S. fishing leader with a storied maritime
past, now can offer young and old alike a look at the underwater world
that has driven the commerce of New Bedford for over 200 years.”
